Comments about the web site: I served with your sister unit - C/1/11 (we were on foot) from July 68 to July 69. My roommate at Fort Carson was Peter Rich, a platoon leader with 1/61 (I think C company?). I remember when I got the word he was killed - I just refused to believe it. I still think of him often. You did a great job on your site - I'll return. Lt. Edgar W Castle

Comments about the web site: If we do not remember our history then it is lost. I have been looking for your site since I got a computer and on Thanksgiving, while searching for maps of the Meuse-Argonne and St. Mihiel areas, my dad and I found this site. A chill ran down both of our spines because we found a link of family history that had become blurred over time. My grandfather was PFC Joseph M. Czech and served in Co. B 61st Inf (Camp Greene N.C.) during WW1. He lied about his age and actually enlisted before war was declared. We have found a few pictures with "May 9, 1917 at Jefferson Barrac St. Louis, Mo." on the back of one and "Co. B 61st Inf Camp Greene N.C." on another. Your history of the unit fit perfectly with what little my dad could remember (he's 71). At the end of the war, my grandfather was stationed in Rodange, Lux. where he met and married my grandmother (Lux). They came back in 1919 to settle in Chicago and start a family before war would take him overseas as a Sea-Bee in 1942. On behalf of my family, I thank you for putting this site together in rememberance of all the great men to wear the red diamond.

Comments about the web site: Dec.69-March 71,Quang Tri/ Dong Ha,3rd Squadron 5th Cavalry (Black Knights)C company, reconnaissance squadron, attached to the 1st Brigade of the 5th Infantry Division(Mechanized) detached from the 9th Infantry Division under control of the 101st Airborne Division(Airmobile) in the A Shau Valley. As Vietnam veterans, combatants,we learned to adjust to the dehumanization as a way of life & survival. As one that has combat PTSD,100% T&P,this is myconclusion to Vietnam, death was cleary a central & profound experience for those of us that were in Vietnam.Rections to the death of others & the potential of being killed sem to represent many pre-service life happenings & circumstances. In the wars aftermath of bitterness on the one hand & official unconcern on the other, us veterans clearly do not relish being blammed for "losing" the kind of war Vietnam was! In my eyes as veterans we are ultimantely separted from the conditions that produced us, no thanks to the US Government. So very glad to be home again & WILL NEVER forget those that could not make the trip. I do hope that your healing after Vietnam is going well for you. Myself I have been through five different PTSD programs, and still have big problems. Welcome home my Vietnam brother

Comments about the web site: I am not a Vietnam Vet, but was assigned to A Co 1/61 Inf in June of 1989, and was deployed with D Co in July to Panama in support of Operation Nimrod Dancer. I am puzzled to see no mention of this deployment, other than the cursory "some troops were sent"... And then, there is no mention of the unit that was sent... Task Force Roadrunner(Dco 1/61). I have long been trying to obtain orders from that deployment, and also for the Army Superior Unit Award that Dco earned for their participation in Operation Nimrod Dancer. We may not have gotten the glory from going and being a part of Just Cause, but we should not be forgotten either. The preparations that we accomplished were instrumental in the success of Just Cause, from Building "CAMP ROADRUNNER" ( I refuse to call it anything else... WE built it!)out of the jungle, to bunkering in Empire Range, and Corazol. I believe that we deserve some mention too.
