One of the all black Infantry units that saw combat in WW I
is show here. The 15th Infantry Regiment of the New York National Guard moves toward the front on French rail cars. This unit was called to Active Duty 25 July 1917 and deployed to Europe as part of the 93rd Division. In Europe it was redesignated as the 369th Regiment but retained its motto "The Fighting Fifteenth" and upon return to the US it reverted to the 15th NY Nation Guard Regiment.
