The Battleship New Jersey provided 1/61 long range fire support with her
16" guns. With a range of about 23 miles and a projectile weight of 2000
pounds this was truly indirect fire support. The New Jersey left station in
the spring of 1969 and was decommissioned 17 Dec 1969. She was brought back on
active duty for the Lebanon Affair then decommissioned again and is now
slated to become a floating museum in Camden, New Jersey. Wonder if any
of the NVA weapons given to her by 1/61 are still on display in the ship?
