Just south of Cam Lo village and across Hwy 9 was the Cam Lo resettlement project. Build with US AID money it was the home for the Viets that once lived to the north of Cam Lo up to the DMZ. The people here were a major target for the North Vietnamese, they wanted them to revolt and they also raided them for young men to become VC. The 1/61, by it presence to the north formed a major buffer between the NVA and the people that lived in this resettlement village.
