Early in his command tour, BG Burke directed that the bunkers at C2 be rebuilt. We all moaned and groaned but it was really a good move. Workers found many of the above ground parts of the older bunkers had been built with wooden artillery ammo boxes and they were not filled with dirt. Not much protection. With the help of the BDE Engineer Platoon, new bunkers were built and some of the older ones destroyed. The new TOC was in the same place but was much cleaner and better built. Heavy timbers replaced sandbags and we even got a PSP helipad in the rear for VIP use. Even the rats liked the new TOC.
