At Ft Jackson the battalion became part of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). The 1st BN 61st INFANTRY had a home again and to this day it remains at Ft Jackson.
Ft Jackson, located within the city of Columbia, South Carolina, has
been a training base for many years.
Prior to World War I, then Camp
Jackson, provided the site for training those about to go "Over There".
Now a Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) post, Ft Jackson is the home
of the 4th Training Brigade. The 1st of the 61st, along with the 2nd of the
39th and 1st of the 34th Infantry, make up the line units of the Brigade.
The 1st of the 61st remembers its past and honors those that have gone
before. The Night Infiltration Course is named in
honor of Lieutenant ABERNATHY, Range 3 in honor of Captain VERNON, and two
classrooms buildings are named in honor of Captains BLUNT and STARR.

"PFC Craig DIXION, soldier with Headquarters 1st Battalion, 61st Infantry
Regiment, has unveiled the sign for the building dedicated to STARR. The
inscription on it briefly explains his heroic act. Across the walkway at
Building 3280 is a similar sign honoring BLUNT."
"There is a rank due to the United States, among nations, which will be withheld, if not absolutely lost, by the reputation of weakness. If we desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it; if we desire to secure peace, one of the most powerful instruments of our rising prosperity, it must be known that we are at all times ready for war." --George Washington
